Mickey Mouse management

Pat O’Donnell’s defense of the Aspen Skiing Co.’s handling of the recent deaths is vivid proof that the company could benefit from a change of leadership.

Instead of proactively outlining steps that the company is taking to improve skier safety, he pens this pitiful diatribe defending company’s actions.

Of course, we all believe that the emergency personnel did everything in their power to save lives. I doubt any responsible person really questions their dedication, or the fact that many of the company’s employees are truly devastated.

Unfortunately, it’s not the issue. What’s important, is to know that substantive steps are being considered.

There’s not a single mention of reviewing safety procedures, or instituting mandatory helmets for children. Did he simply miss the editorials and the many letters from the community on these topics?

I believe it’s time for the Crown family to fire this guy and hire someone with leadership skills. How about a person who can proactively manage through a crisis with more than just defensiveness and PR spin?

Since Mr. O’Donnell believes this isn’t Disneyland, then why do we need his Mickey Mouse style of management?
