Michael ‘Buzz’ McGarry
Aspen, CO Colorado
On Jan. 22, 2012, longtime Aspenite Michael (“Mike,” “Buzz,”) McGarry quietly passed away at the home of his sister and brother-in-law in Fountain Valley, Calif. from cancer.
Michael, the former 41-year Aspen resident, was a graduate (1972) of the History Department at CU-Boulder. For 17 years, he worked for A-1Maintenance. He loved Aspen and the mix of freedoms it extended to people from all over.
Consistent with his sense of humor, Michael said he wanted to make sure the following message got through to everyone: “Don’t get terminal cancer; it isn’t fun.”
He is survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins, and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Jim Woodburn of Vista, Calif., and Maureen and Jim O’Day of Fountain Valley, Calif. Michael also loved his greater Aspen family – friends and co-workers whom he became close to over the decades. He was extremely grateful for the love and support he received from Aspen during his illness.
If anyone inquires about donations in Mike’s name, his wishes were to support his favorite charity, Smile Train – http://www.smiletrain.org or 800-932-9541. This charity repairs cleft lips/palettes among children in developing countries.

Sick of not being able to find a parking place on Lone Pine Road because people are storing their cars and trailers? That’s about to change.
