Mental health conference set Friday in Aspen

ASPEN – Online registration ends at 11 a.m. Thursday for “The Divided Self: Crisis in Paradise II,” a conference that starts at 8 a.m. Friday at Aspen’s Hotel Jerome Ballroom.

The event is presented by the University of Colorado Denver Depression Center and is sponsored by Aspen Valley Medical Foundation.

Discussed topics at the Hotel Jerome will include the following:

• What are the mental health challenges affecting us?

• What are the cutting edge and traditional treatments?

• What resources are available in Aspen and Pitkin County?

• Who is the right therapist?

• How do I help myself, my friends, and my family?

Presenters will include officials from the University of Colorado Depression Center, including Dr. Alexis Giese, director of community programs; Dr. Michael Allen, director of research; and Emily Andresen, research program coordinator. Local psychiatrist Dr. Jonathan Birnkrant will also give a lecture.

Suicide prevention and QPR trainings will be offered from 2-4 p.m. Friday at the Health and Human Services Building
