Memorial: Susan Helen Horsey

A memorial service for Susan Helen Horsey will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen. All who knew her are cordially invited.

Susan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 8, 1936, and lost her battle with lung cancer on March 25, 2010. She died surrounded by friends and family at hospice in Scottsdale, Ariz., where her son, Dan Martineau, currently resides.

Susan first visited Aspen in 1955 while a student at Colorado College. She lived in Aspen full time from 1996 until her death, and was a tireless volunteer and generous supporter of numerous organizations in town, including the Aspen Writers’ Foundation where she was board president; Christ Episcopal Church where she was a long-time member of the Vestry and member of the committee which just completed their lovely renovation; Les Dames d”Aspen; Aspen Theater in the Park; KAJX, where she was a board member; the Aspen Music Festival and School; The Aspen Institute; the Aspen Choral Society; the Aspen Community Foundation; and many more. Our town will sorely miss her creative energy, generous spirit and devotion to others.
