Memorial: Paul Soldner

There will be a remembrance of life for acclaimed ceramic artist and longtime Aspen resident Paul Soldner at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Shermer Hall at Anderson Ranch Art Center in Snowmass Village.

Soldner passed away on Jan. 3 in Claremont, Calif., where he had headed the ceramics department at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate University for 40 years. He split his time between Aspen, which he considered home, and Claremont, always returning to Aspen every spring to enjoy the summer and fall.

Soldner co-founded Anderson Ranch Arts Center, first known as the Center for the Hand and Center for the Eye, and helped nurture it into the internationally respected center for art education that it has become. In 2004, he was inducted into the Aspen Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the community and for his international reputation for innovation ceramic art.

The memorial will include speakers, video and slide presentations depicting Soldner’s unique lifestyle and artistic expression. The gathering is open to the public.
