Mayoral propaganda

I was surprised to receive a Carbondale town newsletter with a front page story, “From the Mayor,” just a week before said mayor’s re-election bid.

Randy Vanderhurst used the newsletter as a personal soapbox in his re-election campaign. This is an abuse of his position as mayor and behavior that can only be described as inappropriate and unethical.

Why should our tax money be spent on free publicity for politicians? And if it is to be spent this way, shouldn’t all candidates be given equal space?

Vanderhurst must be very confident of his chances of re-election to behave in such an unscrupulous manner. Perhaps Carbondale voters will give him a surprise on April 2.
