Max Marolt scholarship program awards local athletes

ASPEN ” The city of Aspen has awarded $2,000 in athletic scholarships this quarter as part of the Max Marolt Scholarship Program. The Max Marolt Scholarships have existed since 2001, with the scholarship committee granting $6,000 annually to local athletes.

– This quarter’s athletic recipients are:

– Scott Lacy, Aspen. Lacy trains with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club and used the grant to compete at the 2009 U.S. Cross Country National Championships in Anchorage, Alaska.

– JoAnna Coffey, Snowmass Village. Coffey trains with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club and used the grant to compete at the United States Alpine National Championships in Alyeska, Alaska.

– Megan Lund, Basalt. Lund trains with the Hit the Ground Running in Aspen and will use the grant to run in the following events: the Mt. Washington Road Race, the U.S. Mountain Running Championships, and the U.S. Teva Mountain Running Team Qualifier: Cheyenne Canyon Mountain Race.

– Kelly Selby, Carbondale. Selby trains with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club and used the grant to compete at the World Ski Invitational in Whistler, British Columbia.

– Bobby Moyer, Aspen. Moyer trains with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club and used the grant to compete at the 2009 Whistler Cup Championships.

Marolt, a member of one of Colorado’s oldest skiing families, was a native Aspenite whose commitment to Colorado skiing spanned more than 60 years.
