Mary Webster Young of Aspen died at her home on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. She had lived in Aspen for 37 years.
She was born to Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Stewart Jr. on Aug. 9, 1939, and was raised in Flint, Mich.
She was educated at Chatham Hall in Virginia, where she was president of her senior class; Connecticut College; and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She lived in Chicago for eight years before moving to Aspen in 1970.
On March 23, 1981, she married Donald Louis (Brig) Young. Both of his children were witnesses.
In Aspen, she enjoyed the sporting life and volunteered her secretarial skills at both the Methodist and Christ churches. She served on many boards, including visiting nurses, GrassRoots TV and Community Health Services, and also volunteered at Aspen Valley Hospital for 26 years.
Survivors include her husband, Donald L. (Brig) Young; his two children, Linda F. Paul of Snellville, Ga., and Richard D. Young of Kennesaw, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Emily and Abigail Paul and Jack Young. She also is survived by two brothers.
A memorial service will take place at the Henry Stein Park along the Roaring Fork River at noon on Sunday, March 9.
