Mary Margaret Markle

Mary Margaret Markle, 85, of Basalt, died in her son’s home on March 26, 2010.

Mary Margaret Verchere was born Feb. 21, 1925 to Vera Vandever and Charles Verchere of Fredonia, Kansas. Mary Margaret married Jack Eugene Markle of Lyons, Kansas, on June 26, 1946. They lived in Albuquerque, N.M., where they raised son Lane McBride Markle and daughter Shannon Markle. Mary Margaret and Jack moved to Basalt in 1976.

After a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, her husband of nearly 50 years died. Her son Lane and wife Pamela live in Glenwood Springs and have been lovingly taking care of her for the last six months in their home. Her four grandsons, Jesse, Tyrel, Cody, and Jack, will miss their grandmother very much. Her daughter Shannon and husband Jim Bechdol live in Helena, Mont. and have been at their mother’s side this week, making her last days as easy as possible. Mary Margaret also left behind three (almost four) great-grandchildren.

At Mary Margaret’s request, private family services will be held at Basalt Fairview Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jack.
