Mary E. Wilson

The Aspen Times
Aspen, CO Colorado

Born to a farming family in Glen Rock, Penn., Mary moved to Aspen in 1973. She fell in love with Aspen and the mountains that surround it. She moved back to Pennsylvania after retirement but missed Aspen so much she returned in less than a year.

Mary’s first career in Aspen started at Timberline Book store, where she became manager. She and her husband, John Wilson, started a day-care service in Aspen. They cared for dozens of Aspen children over the course of 15 years. After trying retirement, she went back to work at the Aspen airport in security. Mary at 4 feet, 10 inches, was “perfect” for security.

Mary loved her life and time in Aspen but most of all she loved her grandchildren: Adam Richey of San Francisco, Piper Richey of New York City, and Hank Richey and Regan Richey of Aspen. Plus she had two great-grandchildren, Elle and Sloane Richey. Her son, H.E. Richey and wife, Penny, live in Aspen.

Her burial in Pennsylvania, will be private. Donations in Mary’s name will be appreciated by Hospice of the Valley. The family wants to thank Heritage Park for their care and attention to Mary’s care the past 12 months. Hospice of the Valley gave Mary’s last six weeks amazing care and attention. When family or friends could not be there, they were there with and for Mary. Thank you so very much to each and every one of you who made her last months and days as good as it could have been.
