Marta Hauner

Marta Hauner of Marta’s Salon in Basalt passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. She was born in a small town near Bruno, in the Czech Republic. She escaped during the communist regime to the United States, and after a few years ended up in Denver where she meet her husband, Jerry Hauner, whom she was with until his death in 2005. They moved to Aspen in 1985, and began working toward owning their own businesses and raising their daughter.

Marta worked as a manicurist in Aspen for more than 10 years until she opened her own salon in Basalt. She opened it to be a more home-away-from-home for her clients, who were usually like family. Whether you just wanted to relax or have a good gossip, or even a shoulder to lean on, she was there. She will be remembered by all of those who loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Diana.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 200 Elk Run, Basalt. Instead of flowers and food, written down memories of moments or stories with Marta or why you loved her would be greatly appreciated. There is also a memorial fund for those who would rather donate.
