Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley will be among the headliners of the X Games concert series at Wagner Park, while SoCal punkers The Vandals will play a free show during AWOL Aspen, another X Games spectacle.

Marley, the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, will perform a free concert in the park on Saturday, Jan. 28. He’s scheduled to take the stage at 9:30 p.m. Friday’s act at the park has yet to be announced.

The Vandals will perform during AWOL Aspen, a wallride exhibition at the base of Aspen Mountain, on Sunday, Jan. 29. AWOL, a sidelight to the Winter X Games at Buttermilk, features skiers and snowboarders launching themselves up a 30-foot wall facing Aspen Mountain. The band plays on a stage atop the wall. The action starts at 5:15 p.m.

Winter X Games Ten at Buttermilk runs Jan. 28-31.

Marley is in the spotlight with his album “Welcome to Jamrock,” released last year. The album has been nominated for a pair of Grammy Awards, in the categories of best reggae album and best urban/alternative performance. “Welcome to Jamrock,” on the strength of the title track, entered the Billboard album charts at No. 7, the highest debut ever for a reggae album. “Welcome to Jamrock,” co-produced by Marley’s half-brother Stephen, features contributions from Nas, Bobby Brown and Eek-a-Mouse.

Marley made two trips to Aspen in 2005, playing a total of four concerts on a bill with Stephen.

The Vandals’ career spans 23 years and 12 albums including their latest, “Hollywood Potato Chip.” The band includes guitarist Warren Fitzgerald, drummer Josh Freese, bassist Joe Escalante and vocalist Dave Quackenbush.

“This band is a great fit for this event,” said John Rigney, the Skico’s managing director of event marketing. “Their energy matches the intensity of the wallride and the whole X weekend.”

Fast, catchy tunes like “Jackass,” “My Girlfriend’s Dead,” “I Have A Date,” “Idea For A Movie,” “I’ve Got An Ape Drape,” “People That Are Going To Hell” and “Anarchy Burger” are Vandals’ classics.

AWOL Aspen is part of the Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series, featuring six free, outdoor concerts coinciding with big events and peak weekends throughout the ski season in Aspen/Snowmass. The remaining concerts dates are Feb. 11, March 16 and April 16.
