Mark Chapman Powell

Mark Chapman Powell was born in Houston, Texas on July 2, 1967, and passed away in Colorado on Nov. 19, 2007. He was an extremely kind and sensitive man who was greatly loved and he returned that love to his family and his many friends. We will all miss having Mark in our lives.

Mark is survived by his parents, Kathleen and Dick Rogers, and Sam and Gaye Powell; brothers Madison Powell and John Rogers; sisters June Rogers Chandler and her husband, Mark, and Margaret Rogers Van Hofwegen and her husband, Kurt; his aunts and uncles: Madelyn and George Farris, Marilyn Doherty, Patricia Armstrong, Robert P. Doherty, III, Lisa and David Doherty, and Peggy and Michael Dobbins. He leaves behind his cousins: Johnny Armstrong, Katherine Armstrong Nichols, Thad Armstrong, Leigh Farris Granite, Lindsay Farris Creedon, Bobby Farris, Brian Doherty, David Doherty, Pace Doherty, Jeb Dobbins, Clem Dobbins; his nieces: Katie Chandler and Grace, Anna and Olivia Van Hofwegen. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Katherine and Robert P. Doherty, Jr., and Polly and Dr. Sam M. Powell.

Mark was a graduate of Lee High School and The University of Houston. His chosen career was in real estate, homebuilding and land development, which he truly enjoyed. During his career he worked with several companies, including McGuyer Homebuilders, David Weekley Homes, Dickson Partners, and most recently ICM Group in Aspen, Colo.

Mark was a high-energy guy, a competitor, who loved all sports, both as a spectator and a participant. Mark also enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was golfing, skiing, marathon running or mountain biking. He especially enjoyed hockey. As a boy he was a member of the Metropolitan Houston Hockey Association travel team and had recently been playing for a hockey league in Colorado.

Mark was blessed with many special friends throughout his life, and it would please him to have them mentioned here. It is with sincere gratitude for their loyalty and devotion to helping Mark find peace in his life, that we acknowledge: Helaine Abramson, Matt Adams, Matthews Alvarez, Kirby Black, David Bork, Kevin Cochran, Cindy Englebert, Alex Epley, Ashley Hill, Chris Hotze, Ian James, Lee Leonard, David Livingston, Brett Lum, Murray McCabe, David Montgomery, Mike Moody, Charlie Neese, Karl Richter, Carleton Riser, Jack Wheeler Jr. and Jack Wheeler Sr.

There will be a Memorial Service for Mark on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at 10 a.m., at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas.
