Marijuana rules to be debated across Colorado
November 16, 2009
DENVER – Medical marijuana continues to spark debate in towns across Colorado. This week, several cities will consider moratoriums on new marijuana dispensaries.
Grand Junction officials planned to debate a moratorium Monday night. Similar proposals are up for debate this week in Fort Collins, Pueblo and Loveland. And in Denver, city officials are planning a review of the status of marijuana dispensaries.
Municipal governments across the state have scrambled to respond to the growth of marijuana dispensaries. Colorado voters approved medical marijuana in 2000, but the number of dispensaries took off earlier this year after the Obama administration signaled it would defer to state laws on marijuana. Colorado now has more than 100 dispensaries.
