Man struck, killed by train near Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” Union Pacific Railroad and Mesa County sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine how a man ended up in the path of a freight train, leading to a grisly accident that killed him.

Authorities were called to the scene in Clifton, the community adjacent to Grand Junction, at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, and found man’s remains scattered near a railroad crossing.

The train was westbound when it hit the man. It wasn’t immediately clear where the train originated or where it was headed.

The name of the victim has not been released.
