Man sought in assault

Aspen Times writer

The Aurora Police Department is seeking a man with ties to Aspen who allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in Aurora last February.

Investigators have identified 39-year-old William Joseph Wright, also known as Joe Wright, as the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in tracking him down. A warrant has been issued for his address.

Wright’s last known address is a ranch in Aspen, where he worked in construction. He apparently also worked on construction jobs in the metro-Denver area and may be driving a black Dodge Durango with Colorado license plate No. 751GKE, according to a press release issued by Aurora police.

The alleged assault occurred Feb. 21. Police believe Wright was drinking heavily with friends at a home in Aurora. He then went upstairs to lay down, entered the bedroom where his friend’s daughter was resting and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Anyone who has contact with Wright is asked to call their local police department or contact the Aurora Police Department at (303) 627-3100. Also, police ask that anyone with any additional information regarding this case contact Detective Bob Wesner at (303) 739-6129.
