Vail Daily Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. – Anthony Bowerman, 42, of Aurora, Colo. was rescued Sunday morning after a night outside in the mountains above Vail.

The search and rescue effort began Saturday at about 4:30 p.m. after Bowerman became separated from a group that was skiing down from the Peter Estin Hut.

Bowerman built a snow cave to help him get through the night. In the morning, Bowerman started down the hill again, noticed the helicopter, and waved it down.

Two Blackhawk helicopters flown by pilots from the Colorado National Guard High Altitude Aviation Training Center assisted with the rescue operation. Bowerman was rescued shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday.

The search and rescue involved the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Mountain Rescue Group and the Colorado National Guard.
