Man haunts the wrong bed

Aspen Times Staff Report

A local man may have thought he was doing pretty well for himself when he made it to bed safe and sound just after bar time on Halloween night.

The trouble was, he was in the wrong bed, and its rightful occupant was not happy about it.

The 28-year-old, of Aspen, was discovered by a local woman when she came home that morning to the Holiday House, which houses employees of the Aspen Skiing Co.

Aspen Police Sergeant Gary Kalkman said the woman, whose name was not released, arrived home to find a naked man whom she did not know snoring away in her bed.

She called police at shortly after 3 a.m. and ordered him to wake up, get dressed and leave.

Kalkman said the woman “thought she may have recognized him as a friend of someone who used to live there [at the Holiday House], which might explain why he thought he was somewhere he should have been.”

The man was charged with trespassing and released.

Kalkman said that other than that episode, Aspen’s Halloween 2000 was a remarkably calm affair.

Although reports from the streets indicated considerable revelry, and there were plenty of costumed partiers wandering from bar to bar all night, there was only one other arrest, Kalkman said. That was of a drunk driver stopped along Cemetery Lane at 7 p.m., before the night’s partying even got well under way.
