GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A man who drowned swimming in the Colorado River appears to have been intoxicated when he went in the water.

A pathologist with the Mesa County coroner’s office says that 43-year-old Jesse Lee Melvin of Denver was intoxicated when he began struggling in 60-degree water.

Melvin’s body was pulled from the river Saturday night near the Colorado-Utah state line. He was not wearing a life jacket.
