Man dies in Thompson Creek Road crash

CARBONDALE – A man is dead after a rollover accident on Thompson Creek Road (Garfield County Road 108) outside of Carbondale on Monday afternoon, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the patrol, a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling east when it entered a sweeping, downhill curve to the right and skidded off the side of the road before returning to the gravel road and rolling. A man and a woman were in the vehicle, according to the patrol.
The man was thrown from the vehicle, while the woman was able to crawl out on her own, the patrol said. Witnesses to the crash – Pitkin County Road and Bridge employees – performed CPR on the man, according to the patrol. He was taken to Valley View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was also taken to the hospital, suffering moderate to severe injuries, the patrol said.
Authorities have yet to determine who was the driver of the vehicle, according to a patrol press release. The accident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. and the road was closed afterward for the crash investigation. It remained closed shortly before 6 p.m.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, Carbondale police and Carbondale firefighters also responded to the scene.
