Man dies after apparent heart attack at Ashcroft

ASPEN ” A 67-year-old Denver man died Thursday after he suffered a possible heart attack at a nordic skiing area south of Aspen.

A report of a man suffering possible cardiac arrest came to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department at about 3:15 p.m. The man was at Ashcroft Ski Touring, a nordic ski area about 11 miles south of Aspen in the Castle Creek Valley.

Aspen ambulance personnel and county deputies responded. When they arrived, bystanders ” including several ski patrol members ” were already performing CPR on the man, who was not identified in a sheriff’s department press release issued Thursday evening.

The patient was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 5:25 p.m., the sheriff’s department said.
