EAGLE ” Jurors have convicted a man of killing a woman after an argument at a campsite in Eagle County.

A jury on Tuesday found Charles Gross guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and second-degree assault.

Charles Gross shot and killed Maria Madrid as she and her husband Eliseo Madrid and their son, then 14-year-old Joel Madrid, were leaving a campsite north of Dotsero on Oct. 7, 2005.

Tearful Madrid family members hugged each other outside the courtroom after the verdict was delivered.

“He did a crime and he has to pay for his crime,” Eliseo Madrid said through an interpreter.
