Man commits suicide in Paepcke Park

A 51-year-old Grand Junction man committed suicide late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning in Paepcke Park, according to a statement from Aspen police.
The man, who died of a gunshot wound, was later identified as Danny Keith Scanlan, said Blair Flickinger, spokeswoman for the Aspen Police Department.
A passerby found the body and called police at 7:15 a.m., according to the statement. Officers arrived at the park five minutes later and located a handgun, notes and Scanlan’s car.
The park was cordoned off for about two hours. Officers set up privacy screens around the body during the investigation, according to the statement.
Police do not suspect foul play.
