Malachy McCourt fills in for brother at writers’ fest

The Aspen Writers’ Foundation has announced that author Frank McCourt will not be able to attend the Summer Words Literary Festival.McCourt was forced to cancel because of a medical emergency, according to a foundation press release, and will be replaced by his brother, Malachy McCourt. The latter is also an international best-selling author in addition to being an actor, playwright, columnist and comedian.Malachy McCourt will headline Wednesday’s gala dinner at 7 p.m. and participate in the Irish author salon Thursday at 7 p.m. “We are saddened to learn of Frank McCourt’s news, and of course disappointed that he won’t be able to greet his many fans in Aspen,” said Lisa Consiglio, executive director of the Aspen Writers’ Foundation. “We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to hosting him in the near future.”The festival runs today through Thursday at the Hotel Jerome.
