Making a difference – thanks
Dear Editor:Something magical occurred this past weekend and on behalf of our board of directors and staff, I want to thank the many members of our community and generous benefactors from around the United States for their dedication and support of Aspen Youth Experience’s 9th annual Celebrity Downhill. So many people joined forces to build a three-day event, which was captivating, moving and passionate. Young people here in the Roaring Fork Valley, and in new York City, Washington, D.C., Kansas City, San Francisco and Chicago will benefit from the generosity and love that the people of Aspen and the valley have contributed to make this event and organization such a success.Numerous star athletes and celebrities shared their time, resources and largess to help build a future for our teens. Those who remained at the gala on Saturday evening were treated to a double concert of Jazz vocalist Allan Harris and Kenny Loggins, both of whom sang their hearts out, at no charge to Aspen Youth Experience. We are so very grateful to our chairs, Laura Welch and Donna Wiedinmyer, for their incredible energy and contributions. To our committee chairs and members, to the cadre of volunteers, some of whom remained at the hotel until almost 1:30 a.m., and to the legions of other faithful who worked so hard to make this event such a huge success, we are eternally grateful. You are the best! With Colorado Nonprofit Week having started on Monday, March 7, I am so honored and proud to lead an organization which is making a difference in the lives of so many.Thank you, Aspen!Bennett A.
