Lucky to work for Aspen Skiing Co.

Dear Editor:

Ten years ago I had breast cancer and Aspen Skiing Co. took care of me. The Skico insurance covered so much, during the surgery, the chemo, the radiation, and the follow-up. Members of the Skico family took me to doctors (even in Denver!), put me up in their homes, brought me flowers, food, books, and many good wishes.

In the pre-season, I lead many of the new-hire orientations. I help new employees, including apprentice instructors, sign up for their benefits. These new employees come from all over the country and they choose to come here. We have the best compensation package in the industry for instructors. Skico is also the only resort to subsidize health insurance premiums year round for seasonal employees. (I taught skiing at another ski area for 12 years and never had the option of getting health insurance!)

Thank you to the Crown family and to Skico. I feel very fortunate to be a ski instructor for such a good employer!
