Louisiana man hospitalized after ATV crash in Crown Mountain area

A man was hospitalized Friday night after reportedly crashing an ATV in the Crown Mountain area of unincorporated Pitkin County, authorities said.

Michael Blake, age unknown, of Metairie, La., was transported by helicopter to St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.

Authorities received a call at approximately 5:35 p.m. regarding the crash, which happened about one-half mile northeast of Dinkle Lake/West Sopris Creek Road intersection, according to a press release.

Blake was found about 300 yards down the hillside of the road.

The press release says “impaired driving is being explored as a contributing factor in the crash.”

“Using 11 fire personnel, Basalt Fire orchestrated a low-angle rescue — collecting Blake and bringing him up to the road,” the press release says.

Pitkin County deputies also aided in the effort. The matter is under investigation by the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol.
