Loss of a great friend
Michael Pugh was a longtime Aspen resident who in the summer of 1997 lapsed into a diabetic coma and subsequently suffered severe brain damage. At the time, he was 39. Many of you will remember Michael from the Mother Lode or Takah Sushi, or perhaps you knew him on the mountain or golf course. He loved living in Aspen and took full advantage of all this town had to offer.
This past weekend, Michael passed away because of complications from his diabetes. Please take a moment today to remember his smile, his infectious laugh, and most of all, what a great friend he was to all of us.

There is a lot of pent up energy among hikers and bikers to get into the high country, but snow fields, avalanche debris and high stream crossings are presenting challenges later than usual. Forest rangers with the Aspen-Sopris District provide trail condition reports that are updated each week so hikers and backpackers aren’t caught unaware.
