Looking for one courageous candidate
Dear Editor:
No question that employee housing is our largest single voting bloc; it is the third rail of Aspen politics. Ten candidates, one issue and a lot of detail. That was my problem with Tuesday night’s Aspen Democracy Initiative forum on employee housing – long on detail and light on vision.
I did not hear a single plan to improve the sense of community within the employee-housing developments or to help integration between employee-housing residents and other Aspen residents.
We have 10 passionate, positive candidates who are motivated by a deep desire to serve their fellow Aspenites. Knowing the details of the issue is important, but at this stage, examining the bones and basic structure just might be more important.
Be brave. In a field of 10, courage just might be an asset.
