Locals come to Columbine’s aid

Aspen Times Staff Report

A Basalt mother and daughter team are donating the commissions of all the Discovery Toys sold by their national distributors through Thursday to Columbine High School in Littleton.

The funds may be used at the school’s discretion.

Sarah White, a group manager with the network-marketed Discovery Toys, and her mom, Jan Ruhe, a diamond sales director, have some 5,000 distributors working with them, and the two will donate the sales commissions from Tuesday through Thursday.

Discovery Toys sells educational games, books and software for people of all ages, with an average price of $15. For more information and/or to place an order, call 948-2954, or fax to 927-0200, or e-mail to sarahjwhite@yahoo.com.

For individuals wishing to contribute to the fund-raising effort without actually purchasing a gift, donations will be accepted to go toward the purchase of “The Next Place,” a touching children’s book that explains death to younger children. Ruhe and White intend to give the books to the young siblings in families affected by the April 20 massacre at Columbine. Commission monies and books will be hand-delivered to Columbine High School by Ruhe and White during the first week of May.
