Locals came through in time of need

On Aug. 16, my friend, Steve Castellano, died as a result of injuries sustained from a fall which occurred as we descended Snowmass Mountain.

In the wake of this tragedy, many people helped the Castellano family and myself.

I’d like to thank Tim and Wendy Fitzgerald of Snowmass Falls Outfitters. They offered, without request, the use of their cabin and phone; and also packed up and brought down our gear which had been left at Snowmass Lake.

Thanks also to the owners/management of Mountain Chalet in Aspen for providing me a room that evening.

I’d especially like to thank the staff of the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office – they anticipated and handled every detail in the aftermath with warmth and kindness.
