Party planned Wednesday for Aspen’s Olympic-bound athletes

Aspen will host a send-off party Wednesday for six local athletes heading to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The event will take place 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Silver Queen Gondola Plaza. Chris Klug will introduce the athletes, then there will be brief speeches by Aspen Councilwoman Ann Mullins, Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club Executive Director Mike Godomsky and Aspen Skiing Co. President and CEO Mike Kaplan.
The athletes who will be honored are:
Torin Yater-Wallace, of Basalt, who qualified in halfpipe skiing
Alex Ferreira, of Aspen, halfpipe skiing
Wiley Maple, of Aspen, alpine skiing
Alice McKennis, New Castle, alpine skiing
Simi Hamilton, Aspen, cross-country skiing
Noah Hoffman, Aspen, cross-country skiing
Yater-Wallace and Ferreira, hot off appearances at the X Games, will be at the celebration in person. The other athletes will be represented by family members.
