Mark Hunt buys Aspen commercial building for $15 million
Ownership in the Mill Street Commercial Center changed this week in a deal worth $15 million, and the buyer’s identity is well-known in Aspen’s development arena.
Mark Hunt, through the limited liability company North Mill Street LLC, bought the commercial buildings at 465 and 557 N. Mill St. from North Mill Street Investors, which includes Aspen developers Andy and Nikos Hecht.
Hunt and planner Chris Bendon, who has worked with Hunt and the Hechts on development projects, did not respond to messages seeking comment Friday.
The Mill Street Commercial Center — its main front is on Puppy Smith Street across from Clark’s Market — includes such businesses as a second-hand sports store, a shipping businesses, an auto mechanic and other operations.
The 465 building has 20,000 square feet of space, and the 557 building has 8,000 square feet.
Both buildings are zoned service-commercial-industrial, which means tenants pay lower rents but must provide community services.
North Mill Street Investors had owned the buildings since 2007, and last year they sued the Aspen government and City Council over changes to its land-use code prohibiting the development of free-market residential in SCI zones.
That suit, however, hasn’t been served on the city yet, according to Pitkin County District Court records.
Attorney Chris Bryan of Garfield & Hecht declined comment Friday when asked if the suit would be dismissed given that the plaintiff, North Mill Street Investors, no longer owns the property.
The transaction was made public Friday by the Pitkin County Recorder’s Office.
