Eagle County commissioner hopefuls to get their say in El Jebel forum
January 28, 2019
The eight candidates who applied to fill an open position on the Eagle Board of County Commissioners will be interviewed by a selection committee in El Jebel on Wednesday.
The candidates will be interviewed at 5:30 p.m. in the Eagle County office building next to Crown Mountain Park. The meeting is open to the public, but no questions will be taken from the audience.
A vacancy on the three-member Board of County Commissioners was created this month when Jill Ryan resigned to accept appointment to the new administration by Gov. Jared Polis. Ryan was appointed as executive director of public health and environment.
She vacated the District 1 seat, which doesn't include the Roaring Fork Valley slice of Eagle County. Eagle County commissioners represent a specific district and they must live in the district they represent. However, voting for the positions is at-large. This appointment will be until November 2020.
The selection is expected to follow a second candidate forum that takes place Feb. 5 in Edwards. Ryan's appointment took effect Jan. 27. The vacancy committee has 10 days to name a replacement.
The eight applicants for the county commissioner seat are Albert Ewing, Meg Gilman, Dylan Heaney, Elyse Howard, Kim Langmaid, Meighen Lovelace, Claire Noble and Matt Scherr.
