Aspen-area honor roll

• Sonja Ann Gagen of Aspen, a senior majoring in environmental engineering, was named a presidential scholar for the spring 2017 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

• Ryer Gardenswartz was named to the dean’s list at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) for the 2017 fall semester. Gardenswartz, from Aspen, is earning a Bachelor of Arts, B.S. in kinesiology and health majoring in journalism, sport leadership and management.

• Andrew Hancock of Aspen was named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Hampshire for earning honors for the fall 2017 semester. Hancock has not declared a major.

• Olivia Ayers of Carbondale was named to The University of Rhode Island Dean’s List

Colorado ski industry focused on recovery, not dwelling on lost season


Aspen Skiing Co. and most of the Colorado ski industry were cruising along in a second strong season, until the coronavirus crisis forced their closure on March 14. Skier visits would typically be announced this week, but the ski industry is focused on forging ahead rather than looking back.
