Local gymnasts take top honors

The fifth annual Silver City Gymnastics Invitational was held on Saturday at the Red Brick Recreation Center.

Forty level 5 and 6 gymnnasts from seven teams throughout the state descended on Aspen for the competition, with the Aspen team taking top honors in the level 5 team event and placing fourth in level 6.

The level 5 team of Jacqui Edgerly, Hayley Hoffman, Brittany Knowlton, Kaitlin Roos, Annie Buettow, Elle Stark and Stephanie Deleon was paced by Edgerly, who took first place in the all-around and uneven bars and third in the floor exercise.

Hoffman was first in balance beam and floor exercise and placed second in the all-around. Knowlton took second place in balance beam and third in the all-around, and Roos had a second place in floor exercise.

The level 6 team, consisting of Page Cottrell, Jenny Hearn, Megan Raczak and Taylor Schlepp, also fared well, with Cottrell taking first in floor exercise, third on the uneven bars and sixth all-around. Hearn had two second-place finishes, in vault and balance beam, while Raczak was fifth in both the floor exercise and the uneven bars.
