Little pinko houses for you and me

Dear Editor:

I’m rather concerned about the direction our country is taking.

Back when the Communists in Russia were strong, they had the most beautiful public buildings. Railway stations were like palaces and public parks were fabulous. But the common person lived in squalor. More than one family to a home, lack of jobs, corruption of public officials and so on.

I see the direct parallel here. Families having to move in with others, lack of jobs, and all the while our government is spending money on public amenities that only affect a few.

Do we really need to spend so much on paved bike paths and fancy parks? I wouldn’t mind if our economy were strong, but it seems to me that in these times we could find better ways to spend public money. Lowering taxes and spending it on things that will put people back to work would be a good start.

I see more and more things that look like socialism going on. If history repeats itself, it will be the downfall of our country.
