Lightning strikes Basalt Mountain

BASALT – Firefighters are keeping an eye on individual trees set ablaze by lightning strikes on Basalt Mountain Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department.
A Bureau of Land Management helicopter is being used to check on the fires; Basalt firefighters are being apprised of the situation, the sheriff’s office said. The mountain rises up above Basalt and El Jebel in the midvalley.
Periodic heavy rain, thunder and lightning have rolled through the Roaring Fork Valley Wednesday.
