Lightning sparks small wildfire near Aspen

ASPEN – A lightning strike sparked a small wildfire on Smuggler Mountain near Aspen Wednesday evening.

Aspen firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, about a mile up Smuggler Mountain Road. The brush was ignited at about 8:05 p.m. Less than a quarter-acre burned, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire department responded with two engines and 10 firefighters. Two county deputies and one ambulance from the Aspen Ambulance District were also on the scene.
