Light snow in Aspen, then the big chill

ASPEN ” Snowfall in Aspen Friday morning could add up to 3 to 5 inches by afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Then comes the big chill.

A snow advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. Friday for the Elk Mountains surrounding Aspen and Snowmass. Highs of 10 to 20 degrees are forecast.

Friday night brings a chance of snow and plummeting temperatures. Overnight lows of 10 to 20 below will be exacerbated by winds shifting to the northeast after midnight and wind-chill readings of 13 to 23 below, according to the weather service.

No need to ski first thing on Saturday morning ” wind-chill readings of 16 to 26 below are expected before the day warms up. Highs on Saturday will be 10 to 20 degrees, with west winds at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Similarly frigid overnight temperatures are expected Saturday and Sunday night, as well. Partly sunny skies are forecast Saturday and Sunday, with a 20 percent chance of snow on Saturday, according to the weather service.
