Librarian spreads magic of learning
Dear Editor:Not only is Basalt one of the greatest places to live and raise kids in the world, we have the best children’s librarian in the country. Susan Peterson has overseen 28 children’s librarians in Seattle, has a masters in library science and has worked in libraries for more than 30 years. Susan has set up a wonderful summer reading program for the school kids, reads three story hours a week, and has a craft that goes with the stories of the day – everything from making dog puppets to mixing magic potion.Every Tuesday night she has arranged Family Fun Night: a musician, juggler, magician or puppeteer for families to come and enjoy in Lions Park. And if this is not enough, she holds open craft afternoons every Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. And it’s all free! Susan is showing us libraries can be so much more than a place to borrow books.Susan, thanks for choosing Basalt. Please stay forever! We love you.Rae Lampe, Beth Willeand all our Little Wonder Bugs
