Librarian deserves an award

(This letter was originally addressed to former Basalt librarian Jean Winkler.)

On behalf of the Basalt Board of Trustees, I want to thank you for your 17 years of service as the librarian for the Basalt Regional Library.

During your tenure you have been the heart and soul of the reading and enrichment programs offered here in Basalt, and you have positively influenced many, many people over the years.

The “social capital” generated by your work is enormous. You have fostered creative endeavors by hundreds of citizens, including the young people of our community, Anglo and Latino alike.

The need for communities to gather together and share positive experiences is more important now than ever. In your care, the library has been a place for this kind of necessary and beneficial encounter.

We applaud your many years of excellent service, and wish you happiness and fulfillment in your future work. Please accept our invitation to join our Nov. 12 trustee meeting at 6 p.m. to receive a well-deserved award from all of us.

Richard P. Stevens

Mayor of Basalt
