Letter wasn’t knocking second-home owners

Dear Editor:

In response to Dr. Adam Beckerman’s letter on March 27, I am very sorry if my comment about the square footage of a Red Mountain home came across as a “snide comment.” It was not meant in any way to denigrate the wealthy or those who own local large homes, on Red Mountain or anywhere else. Many of those people are not only my patients but also my friends, and those who know me from my 27 years in the area would know that I meant no such thing.

The comment was meant to provide some point of reference for those who express concern about the square footage of hospital expansion – the number sounds large. However, we have many times that amount of space in mostly unused large homes in the area, which I support, by the way. Some of my closest friends own those homes.

Dr. Steve Ayers
