Letter: Udall steps up for Thompson Divide
Udall steps up for Thompson Divide
We thank Sen. Mark Udall for co-sponsoring the Thompson Divide Withdrawal and Protection Act, which will preserve and permanently protect this very special place from future development for the enjoyment of generations to come.
The Thompson Divide coalition informs us that the “Thompson Divide supports a thriving farming industry, preserves a rich ranching heritage and attracts sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts from across Colorado and the country — all of which help form a sustainable, diversified base for the local economy. Taken together, existing uses of the Thompson Divide support nearly 300 long-term, sustainable jobs and $30 million in annual economic output for rural communities on Colorado’s Western Slope.”
Udall joins Gov. John Hickenlooper, Sen. Michael Bennet, local and county governments throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, hundreds of small-business owners and more than 5,000 area residents who support of preserving the Thompson Divide.
The Pitkin County Democratic party has strongly supported the efforts to protect the Thompson Divide, and we thank Sen. Udall for joining the effort to forge a balanced approach to energy development on public lands in the West.

: The Colorado Department of Transportation gives Aspen’s roundabout a poor grade in terms of level of service so it’s thinking about making changes. But first, a study or two must be done.
