Letter: Responding to criticism

Responding to criticism

Mark Twain said it best, “If you don’t read the newspapers, you are uninformed. If you do read the newspapers, you are misinformed.”

I have owned most of the backside of Aspen Mountain for more than 32 years. I have been a very good steward of this property.

There is a lovely wedding taking place this weekend on my property. The bride is Alex Steel. Her parents are Robert and Gillian Steel. They are all fine, upstanding people and good friends. The family loves Aspen and has contributed much to Aspen, and they continue to contribute to make Aspen the great place it is.

The wedding is a larger project than I thought it would be. However, the interruption it is causing is for a very short time.

Cindy Houben, head of the Planning and Zoning Committee, also likes the property. She spent considerable time by calling people to develop opposition to the wedding. Many times, Cindy has caused problems when we needed approval to build, etc. She is a nice person, but simply likes the property.

Pete Stouffer is one of the nicest people on the back of the mountain. The soil on the site is good, rich soil. It will all be smoothed, seeded and fertilized. It will be restored very shortly. The Steels have promised to make a complete restoration.

I regret if anyone has been offended or if the event has caused any inconvenience. This event will be over in another 5 or 6 days. Can we just live and let live, sit back and enjoy where we are privileged to live.

John W. Miller
