Let’s put an end to fun

Dear Editor:

I just had the pleasure of reading Catherine Cross’ letter to the editor and want to say, right on, Catherine! (“One blast is enough,” July 6, 2011, The Aspen Times)

It’s a terrible shame that Aspen has to deal with old miners like Jay Parker on the Fourth of July. I urge Sheriff DiSalvo to go up there and arrest Jay since it is illegal to set off the cannon in the first place.

While we’re at it, I vote for the immediate cancellation of all fireworks, Wintersköl, Fourth of July parade, Veterans Day, Labor Day, Jazz Aspen and Aspen Music Festival, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and suspension of the Aspen Historical Society, as well as any other evil thing that makes Aspen funky and different from the rest of the world. This is an easy choice because as you say, these activities prevent local “worker bees” from achieving “restful sleep” (mostly due to excitement).

Carl’s sells these funny little things called ear plugs. I hear they work.
