Let yet another roundabout debate begin!

We’ve all gone round and round about the roundabout and now the project is almost done. But no one has discussed the most important aspect of our little experiment in traffic management: What will go into the middle of it?

Whether you love it or hate it, the roundabout will be the most visible aspect of the new Entrance to Aspen. Therefore, it seems less than responsible to not have a full debate about what should grace the center of this circular traffic moderator.

Should it be flashy? Should it be tame? Should it be tacky? Should it involve a revolving – no pun intended – display of artwork?

And that’s where The Aspen Times – in its never-ending quest to contribute to the welfare of its community – turns to its readers. What do you think should go into the center of the roundabout?

We will be collecting answers over the next two weeks, and will print the best of them in an upcoming edition. The best answer will earn the writer a month’s free parking at the Rio Grande Parking Garage.

Drop your ideas off at our office at 310 E. Main; fax them to 925-9156; e-mail to mail@aspentimes.com; or mail them the old-fashioned way to P.O. Box E, Aspen, CO 81612.
