Let there be light

Dear Editor:

Regarding the recent tragedy that occurred on New Year’s Eve morning with the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, I am wondering if the dark section of highway between the Aspen Business Center and Buttermilk could benefit from a few streetlights.

I realize that as a town Aspen tends to try to reduce the amount of light pollution that the city is producing; however, I believe it is worth the public’s safety and convenience to install at least a few streetlights between the ABC and Buttermilk in order to provide a safer environment for travelers in cars and/or any other mode of transportation.

It seems the cons regarding the aesthetic qualities of this area, or energy usage from added streetlights, would be outweighed by the extra security and convenience that lighting would provide to the city of Aspen’s residents and visitors alike.
