Let military train here
In response to the military training proposal to use certain mountain terrain for training, I have to say the military has my support.
Now before anyone judges me anymore, I do not support the wars abroad. I feel our military leaders need to stop the “defenders of democracy” policy and bring troops back home to the States. But I do support the military and the people serving in it.
I support the men and women who risk their lives to protect this country. I support them training in this area and anywhere else in this country. For as long as we have enemies of this nation and our lives, I want them to have whatever training needed to fight and survive.
Anyone against letting them train here, are you saying no to all training? Sure, we don’t fight wars underwater, but I would want to know that the marines know how to swim if they have to.
Mr. Horowitz (“This won’t fly in Aspen,” letters, Oct. 12, 2011, The Aspen Times), sure, the war may end in Afghanistan and everywhere else. Are you saying we should just stop any and all future training because we will never face another enemy? Ever? Our lives may not be at risk today, or tomorrow. But maybe someday they will, and I would either want myself, or the future generations to feel safe because the military has the right training.
On another note, I think it is pretty cool watching jets or helicopters pass overhead at low altitude. And it gives me a little peace of mind that whoever is flying that aircraft is doing it to protect all of us.
