Dear Editor:I’m always amused by Patrick Hunter’s leftist musings (The Aspen Times, June 13), but like so many of his fellow travelers, he often gets his facts wrong. His ranting against the Supreme Court’s medical marijuana ruling shows how uninformed he is. He needs to understand the four “liberals” on the court voted to void state medical marijuana laws. The dissent (support for the state laws) came from conservative Justice Thomas and moderate Justice O’Connor. The liberals were fearful that if they give state law priority over federal law, they would be setting precedent for other situations where state law could trump federal law. For the record, I strongly believe we should aggressively enforce all current drug laws (at the local, state and federal level) and increase the penalties for individuals (both users and dealers) who break these laws.Bill SchafferAspen
